Dimplex Revillusion VS MagikFlame Holoflame

Dimplex and MagikFlame produce some of the most realistic electric fireplaces on the market. For instance, both Dimplex Revillusion and MagikFlame Holoflame produce realistic flames that imitate a traditional wood-burning fireplace. In addition, they have crackling log sounds and generate a bit of warmth, making their beautiful flames feel real.

Unfortunately, given how much these electric fireplaces cost, you’ll have to settle on one model. In short; you have to use either Dimplex Revillusion or MagikFlame Holoflame. So, which electric fireplace is better?

Well, let’s see how these electric fireplace models compare to help you make an informed decision!

Dimplex Revillusion Electric Fireplace

Dimplex Revillusion is a mechanical-based electric fireplace that uses LED technology to create considerably more realistic flames than many models on the market. To be precise, the unit uses a series of LED lights and a motor to generate decent-looking simulated flames that seem to come from the middle of the logs.

This mechanical technology is relatively cheap to manufacturers, which is a great thing for profitability and production. Unfortunately, it significantly lacks the realism of the fire, which can make the electric fireplace look tacky.

To avoid this problem, Dimplex adds to the flame’s realism by making the flames appear to come from the middle of the flames, instead of behind, like most electric fireplace models do. In addition, the unit uses a semi-clear, mirror-like surface that reflects the front of the log set onto a panel that reflects the rear log set. This clever positioning of the mirror/ screen adds 3D depth to the log set and makes the flame appear to burn between the logs.

On the downside, although the flame effect of this fireplace looks decent, it lacks the appearance of a real fire since it’s pretty clear the 2nd log set is a reflection of the first. Moreover, this unit does not produce any sound, making it less realistic.

Key Features

  • Mirage Flame panel

Like other mechanical electric fireplaces, Dimplex Revillusion requires a plane to project its flame effects onto. Specifically, this unit uses a frosted acrylic panel, which the manufacturer claims is better than a mirror since it only shows the flames and no reflections. The coating and the surface are known as the mirage flame panel.

  • Mechanical control panel

The control center of this unit includes a mechanical control that is located in front of the electric fireplace. You can use this panel to control basic functions like adjusting the heat temperature, powering the unit on and off, or changing the flame intensity settings.

On the downside, this control panel doesn’t illuminate light at night, making it a bit difficult to see in dim rooms. Other than that, the control panel is relatively easy to use for manual operation.

  • Remote control

In addition to the manual control panel, this electric fireplace comes with a standard infrared remote control that is designed to control various settings. Unfortunately, you can only operate the fireplace with the remote when directly in front of it. Moreover the remote doesn’t have backlit buttons, which may make it hard to use in dimly lit rooms.

  • Anti-glare front glass

Another notable feature of this Dimplex fireplace is that it has an integrated anti-glare piece of glass to reduce room reflections. This optimal coating ensures that the unit does not reflect objects in the room like lights and furniture, which can deter the flame effect.

  • Log ember bed lights

It’s also worth mentioning that the Revillusuon fireplace can change the lighting color of the log ember bed between blue and red. That way, you can use blue to simulate a gas-burning fire and red to simulate a wood-burning fire. However, the main flame effect remains the same pattern color regardless of the selected ember bed color.

  • Heater

Unlike most electric fireplaces, the Dimplex Revillusion has an inbuilt heater that can warm a room of up to 1000 sq ft. Even better, you can adjust the heat output with low, medium, and high settings.

However, the unit does not have a radial dial to ensure precise control. All in all, it’s ideal for zone heating and enhancing the room ambiance.

  • Mood lighting

Talking of ambiance, this unit has mood lighting built in, allowing you to turn the lights that illuminate the logs on and off or cycle them between 3 different colors. This feature allows you to set a glow in your living space or illuminate a dimly lit room.

MagikFlame Holoflame Electric Fireplace

Magic Flame Holoflame is one of the most realistic electric fireplaces on the market. Thanks to its use of actual flame footage recorded from real fireplaces, making its flame looks very realistic. More importantly, the unit holographically projects the recorded video onto a physical log set to create a convincing flame effect that resembles a real fire. As a result, the logs will appear to burn with a real-looking flame, which is a very brilliant and effective illusion.

In addition, the flame colors of this electric fireplace are lifelike and multicolored, instead of the common monochromatic color found in other models. And since the fireplace uses video of fire instead of relying on LED lights and a mechanical motor, its flames appear to move naturally and much more randomly, giving you a more realistic fireplace experience.

Key Features

  • Large, Unrestricted flames

This Magikflame electric fireplace does a great job of filling the viewing area with flames that take up a significant amount of the available vertical space. Unlike other types of mechanical fireplaces, it doesn’t reflect light onto a screen from behind the log set. Instead, this model uses holographic projection technology to ensure the flames fill the entire viewable area.

  • Log crackling sound

To ensure a real fireplace experience, the beautiful flames produced by this unit are accompanied by the sound of logs popping and crackling. This audio is sampled from real burning fires to enhance the sound effects and accurately reproduce the crackling sounds.

  • Flames appear to come from under, on top, and in front of the log set

Another stunning thing about the holographic technology used in the Magikflame fireplace is that it creates a flame effect that appears to engulf the surrounding log set. Unlike in other fireplaces where the flame appears behind the logs or comes from the middle of the logs, this unit has real-looking flames engulfing the logs all the way around. This kind of 3D depth effect is quite unique and looks fantastic.

  • Back-Lit digital control panel

Instead of using a mechanical control panel like Dimplex Revillusion, the Magikflame Holoflame fireplace is equipped with a built-in, backlit touchscreen control panel. This makes it easy to use in a dimly lit room. However, the touch screen goes dark after you are done using it to blend with the black metal firebox surround.

  • App control

In addition to the backlit digital control panel, this Magikflame fireplace can be operated with a smartphone app on your mobile device. More importantly, it works with a much more reliable and powerful Bluetooth transmission, allowing you to control the device in any room of your home. Therefore, you don’t have to stand directly in front of your fireplace as is the case with a traditional remote control.

  • Inbuilt 5200 BTU Infrared Heater

This unit comes with a 5200 BTU infrared heater that can warm a room of up to 1000 sq ft. Best of all, it has a dial and an inbuilt thermostat that you can use to precisely control the room temperature.

Dimplex Revillusion Vs MagikFlame Holoflame: Which electric fireplace is better?

When it comes to an electric fireplace with the most realistic flames, MagikFlame is clearly a much better option than Dimplex Revillusion. In addition, MagikFlame offers smartphone control on your mobile device as opposed to the remote control on the Dimplex Revillusion model. On top of that, Magikflame has an inbuilt touchscreen, which is a nice touch for ease of use.

However, in terms of cost, Dimplex Revillusion is better than MagikFlame Holoflame as it’s much more pocket friendly. In general, the Dimplex Revillusion fireplace does a pretty decent job at almost half the price of the MagikFlame Holoflame, yet both models provide sufficient warmth to heat a room of up to 1000 sq.
